Brown Sugar Mustard Ham Glaze
This is a great weekend dinner or special holiday meal. My family pretty likes anything that comes from pork, seriously the amount we go through is insane!! With that being said, this ham recipe is very easy and not a lot of steps which I like. I cooked a 10 pound ham so we would have lots of leftovers….. check out my soup recipe and scalloped potatoes and ham for ideas on the yummy leftovers!!
Ingredients
- 1 cup of brown sugar
- 3 tablespoons of honey
- 3 tablespoons of whole grain mustard
- 3/4 teaspoon of ground cloves
- 1 cup of water
- 1/2 cup of apple cider vinegar
Mix all ingredients, it will be thick and sticky…don’t worry this is what its supposed to be.
Ok, now for the ham. You should have a 8-10 pound cooked bone in ham (not a spiral cut!!!) You will need to score the ham in diamond shape pattern about 1 inch deep. (I also keep the rind on, I have a read a lot of recipes that suggest otherwise but I have always had good luck keeping rind on.)
Now be prepared to get a little dirty…. you will need to rub in the glaze into the scores you just made. Honestly, your going to need to use your hands for this! Don’t rush this step, as it’s important we get that glaze in between your scores to ensure a beautiful glazed ham. When your are confident that you have properly packed your ham, rub the remaining glaze over the rest of your ham.
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Place ham on a rack in a roasting pan cut side down (please make sure ham has a 1-2 inch clearance from the pan.) Put a 1 cup of water and a 1/2 cup of apple cider vinegar in bottom of roasting pan (this will help with even cook temps and keep your ham moist.) You will need to cook your ham for about 90 minutes or until internal temp reaches 130 degrees. Remove ham from oven and place on cutting board. Let ham stand loosely covered for 15 minutes before carving.
Enjoy,
